Course Information
Description A survey of the styles and forms of music as it developed from the middle ages to the present. This course will familiarize the student with cultural context, terminology, genres, and notation.
Required Textbooks Textbook Purchasing Statement: A student attending Lamar State College Port Arthur is not under any obligation to purchase a textbook from the college-affiliated bookstore. The same textbook may also be available from an independent retailer, including an online retailer.

Corequisites/Prerequisites  College Level Readiness in Reading and Writing.
Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will: 1. Identify the major periods of music history, general style characteristics and genres of each period, and major composers of each period and representative works. 2. Articulate the relationship between historical developments and events with musical styles and aesthetics. 3. Critically evaluate musical works using specific terminology and listening skills

This is an online course. Not submitting your assignments on time counts as an absence. More than 5 unexcused absences will make you fail this course. Attendance is tracked every week.

Artificial Intelligence are tools to support student work not to replace student’s original ideas and efforts. Assignments should have citations of where the information is found. If it proven that a student submits AI generated work for designated student generated assignments, the academic honesty policy will be followed.

COVID 19 Information The Lamar State College Port Arthur (LSCPA) Student Code of Conduct COVID 19 Policy requires students who have been diagnosed with COVID 19 to report their condition directly to their local health department. Students should also contact their course faculty to report their quarantine status.
